Three Basics of Piano Maintenance

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Proper care of a piano involves three areas: tuning, voicing and regulation. Piano tuning is, of course, the maintenance procedure that is done most often. Pianos go out of tune in response to changes in humidity. Most pianos are tuned twice a year, though in harsh conditions or for professional performance a piano might be tuned more often. But tuning is only one dimension of piano care. The felt hammers of a piano also require occaisional service called voicing. Over time, the hammers can harden, soften or change shape as groves appear from the strings. A hard hammer can give too bright a sound; soft hammers, too mellow a sound; and grooves can interfere with the proper strike of the hammer, distorting the sound and the response of the keys. Voicing reconditions the hammer felt. Finally, a piano must be periodically regulated. Regulation refers to servicing the action, or mechanical movements of the piano for the best sound and feel. This may require adjusting screws, replacing felt, or even a bit of sanding. Properly maintained pianos will need all three of these services, tuning, voicing and regulation; for maximum musical performance and the longest life.

Something You Cannot Agree with Your Parenst on

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Dappy – Rockstar (Explicit) is the kind of song that your parents might not be all that wild about when all is said and done, but the youth of 2012 will be having this one stuck in their head for the next few months at least and they won’t be wanting to get it out either. This is the kind of song that really connects to people on the streets and they can really see where the artist is coming from with rhymes like this. You don’t need to look any further than this for what is going to be big this year and if you think you can just pass this up, you are crazy. The pack will surely leave you behind if you let this track slip through your fingers. Listen for yourself and be the judge, but you’ll definitely agree that you were missing out until then.

The Wireless Microphone: the Freedom You Need

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

There are several models of wireless microphones to choose from. The buyer should look for factors such as budget, range capability and sound quality. They should also buy a wireless microphone specifically for its intended use. This means, if you need a wireless microphone for a small karaoke session with friends, then range shouldn’t be an issue, but if you intend to use it for a live stage production, you’re going to want to purchase a model that features a longer range.

There are two types of commonly used wireless microphones; the Lavalier and the handheld. The Lavalier is the small discreet microphone that’s seen on talk shows, interviews and newscast. These microphones measure in at a couple of inches and can easily be hidden under clothing or clipped to a shirt collar or tie. The handheld microphone is what is used to give lectures, or seen on stage at live music events. These are also used for in-studio music productions.

When purchasing the wireless microphone, you’ll also find out you need to purchase a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter’s job is to pick up the signal from the wireless microphone and send it to the receiver. The receiver then takes the signal from the transmitter and turns it into an audio signal.

These devices can be purchased as a system, commonly referred to as a wireless microphone system. The system will include the wireless microphone. If range, budget and system capabilities are important, you can choose systems that feature longer range and a low chance of interference from other wireless devices or you can buy each component separately.

The wireless microphone is designed to give the user the ultimate experience in mobility, whether it’s a hands-free or handheld microphone, these devices can enhance a performance by providing the freedom the user needs as well as quality sound.

Learning How to Play Guitar Has Changed My Life

Friday, January 6th, 2012

I have been learning how to play guitar for a month or two now. When I first started, I was terrible. With just a little bit of practice time everyday, though, I have slowly gotten better. I am loving the fact that I can play guitar now. I am nowhere near professional, but I can play a few songs. Playing guitar helps me relax and unwind after a long day. I love to just sit outside and play a few songs as the sun fades in the sky. I take my guitar to all my friend’s parties and we sit around and sing songs together. A few other people have guitars and we’ve started playing together. I never thought that learning how to play guitar would open up such wonderful experiences for me. A few friends have been talking about starting a band, but I’m not sure that’s the direction I want to go yet. I would love to be in an orchestra, though.
